​Chris Mc Nee was born in Canberra, Australia but spent his childhood in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

He completed a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2016. Since graduating Chris has had leadership positions with several arts organisations including the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School, Pacific Opera Studio and Omnibus Theatre (UK). He was the founder and Artistic Director of Brisbane City Opera and with BCO he produced and directed several operas, concerts and an international tour to Papua New Guinea. Highlights with BCO include the Australian premier of Opera Galactica and a concert series in partnership with the Queensland Parliament.

As a freelance producer and director he has worked on many productions in Australia and the UK. Highlights include working with British Youth Opera on their 30th Anniversary production of Don Giovanni directed by James Hurley and conducted by Lionel Friend. During his time in Brisbane, Chris joined the Queensland Conservatorium and worked on several of their main productions, scenes programs and post-graduate opera courses - this work included the world premiere of Paul Dean and Rodney Hall’s Dry River Run.

During Covid, Chris took a role producing events with Sydney Live Events - he produced concerts with artists including Kate Cebrano and Jack Jones.

Chris is excited to be joining River City Voices in 2026 and is looking forward to the year ahead.
